Training camp in Rio de Janeiro
BJJ Experience Camp Brazil — 23 to 27 November 2026
There is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training camp in Rio de Janeiro from Monday 23 to Friday 27 November 2026, in Copacabana. It is open to practitioners from any academy and any level, and anyone training here who wants to go is welcome to.
The camp is organised by BJJ Experience (Pound for Pound München), not by Carlson Gracie Amsterdam. We are passing it on because it is a rare chance to train for a week in Rio with Master Carlson Gracie Junior and two sixth-degree black belts.
Who teaches
- Master Carlson Gracie Junior — coral belt, head representative of the Carlson Gracie Association, and one of the organisers of the camp
- Professor Sergio “Canudo” Zimmermann — sixth-degree black belt, born in Rio de Janeiro, head coach of Pound for Pound Munich, two-time IBJJF World Masters champion and twelve-time IBJJF European champion
- Professor Ari Galo — sixth-degree black belt under Master Carlson Gracie, who built the training centre in Copacabana where the camp is held
Dates, price and what it covers
Monday 23 – Friday 27 November 2026
€500 per participant
Nine training sessions across the five days
That price covers the camp itself — the five days of training and the nine sessions with the instructors above. Flights, accommodation and meals are not listed as included, so budget for those separately and ask the organisers what can be arranged in Copacabana.
Where it is
Ari Galo Jiu Jitsu, Rua Barata Ribeiro 370, Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. The training centre sits a few minutes from Copacabana beach, in the busiest part of the city.
Flights and documents
Flights are booked by each participant. Depending on your nationality you may also need a Brazilian travel visa, which takes time to obtain — worth checking as soon as you decide to go.
How to register
Registration goes through the organisers’ own page: BJJ Experience Camp Brazil.
If you train here and you are thinking about going, speak to Marcos first — WhatsApp +31 6 81911917 — so we know who from the academy is travelling.
Academy schedule
The evening schedule changed in September and has settled since. The full week — every class, its time, who teaches it and who it is open to — is on the schedule page, which mirrors Gymdesk. It is not repeated here, because a timetable published in two places goes out of date in one of them.
Two things worth knowing without looking it up:
- Monday is the day to start. The free trial class runs twice, at 08:00 and at 18:00. The schedule shows which Mondays.
- Saturday varies. The Gi class at 16:00 and the No-Gi class at 17:15 run for members, and the format can change from week to week — check the schedule for the current week.
Competitions
Our team is heading to Paris
On 28 and 29 November 2026, four of our students will represent Carlson Gracie Amsterdam at the Paris Fall International Open IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship.
Our athletes competing in Paris:
- Desmond
- Yannick
- Laszlo
- Andy
We are proud to see our students step onto the competition mats and represent our academy.
We wish Desmond, Yannick, Laszlo and Andy the best of luck in Paris. Train hard, stay focused and represent Carlson Gracie Amsterdam with pride.
OSS!
Carlson Gracie Junior seminar — 17 October 2026
Master Carlson Gracie Junior taught at Carlson Gracie Amsterdam on Saturday 17 October 2026, in two sessions, one at 10:00 and one at 13:00.
Three black belts were awarded that day. Laszlo La Ferrara and Clarence Thompson were promoted by Carlson Gracie Amsterdam — the seventeenth and eighteenth black belts this academy has produced. Firoze Singh was promoted by Professor Olga Lyashevska, the first black belt she has awarded, and the same Carlson Gracie line one generation further along it.
Promotions to brown, purple and blue belt were awarded on the same day.
The full roster, and where each of the eighteen sits in the line, is on the lineage page.
